What ABHA Actually Is

How to Create One

1. Aadhaar-based: enter your Aadhaar number on the ABHA portal or app, verify via OTP sent to your Aadhaar-registered mobile number, choose a unique "ABHA address" (like an email ID, e.g., rajesh123@abdm), and the card is generated instantly.
2. Driving licence-based: get an enrolment number from the ABDM portal, then visit a nearest ABHA facility to verify the licence.
3. Through DigiLocker or the Aarogya Setu app, which can also generate an ABHA ID.

The Practical Catch for Elderly Patients

Here is what most explainers skip: creating the ID is the easy part. The real value only shows up once the hospital or clinic you are visiting is actually onboarded to the ABDM ecosystem and asks to link your visit to your ABHA ID. Not every private clinic or smaller nursing home does this consistently yet, even though most major hospitals in Delhi NCR are.
