Understanding the AIIMS OPD Process: Appointment vs. OPD Token
Many patients assume that getting an appointment and getting an OPD token/card at AIIMS are the same thing. In reality, these are two separate processes, often requiring two separate visits and two separate queues.
Step 1: Taking the Appointment
Patients must first secure an appointment — either online (limited slots, often fill up fast) or offline by standing in line at the hospital.

- Counters open around 8:30 AM
- Crowds of 500–600+ people are common
- Outcome: an appointment date (not consultation that day)
Step 2: Getting the OPD Token/Card
On the appointment date, the patient returns to AIIMS and stands in a second, independent queue to obtain the OPD token/card.
